20 years ago, in 1993 the infant World Wide Web, which was up to that point a text only environment, reached a turning point – the web browser that could display graphics was introduced. The web as we know it was born. That same year Jurassic Park was topping box offices with a cloned t-rex and men were shocked to find out that women could “fake it” like Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle. It was also the year that Scott and Pam Miller from Single Leaf Vineyards & Winery released their first wine labeled “Red Table Wine.”
Scott and Pam had started this wine-making journey 5 years earlier in 1988 when they purchased the property that would become Single Leaf. For the next 14 years, these Nevadans split time between Fair Play and Carson City, Nevada as Single Leaf grew. To this day they have close ties to Nevada and always look forward to the end of October when the wine region celebrates Nevada Days! This year during the Nevada Days celebration they are offering a magnum of the 20th Anniversary edition of their “Red Table Wine” complete with a retro label for only $40! A delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, this deal will not last long, so be sure to show up and get some! As always, Pam will be serving home-made soups and breads with the Single Leaf wine collection.
The winery is not the only one celebrating a birthday, because on December 7-8 Single Leaf will host “Scott’s Great Birthday Bash!” A special selection of zinfandel tastings will include some library wines and verticals of Zinfandel. There will also be some barrel tasting of their 2012 “Special Select Zinfandel.”
1993 the European Union or EU was brand new. In 2013, you will be able to taste some brand new releases with European roots, the 2012 Viognier, 2012 Chardonnay and the 2010 Barbera, which is super good and shows off some nice dried fruit character and a well-balanced structure, which were all just released.
Be sure to stop by Single Leaf Vineyards & Winery and congratulate Pam and Scott for 20 years of great memories and great wine and share your memories from 1993, or bring your favorite Beanie Baby by, which were first released in 1993. What a year!
